Council chiefs have reassured parents that there is no threat to Wigan schools and urged them to send their children to classes as usual this morning.
Rumours began circulating on social media last late night about unspecified threats but Wigan Council issued the following statement: “We would like to reassure parents that all schools in Wigan Borough will be open and despite some false speculation on social media there is no intelligence of any threat.”
GMP Wigan West also tweeted: “Communities defeat terrorism, which is why we must maintain the strong relationship between the public and police. We depend on information from the public, who can be our eyes and ears, in our efforts to keep us all safe. We would like to reassure you that It is Business as usual for the town centre, town hall, business and schools.”
