A MAN was punched as he walked his dog in Wigan.

At 10.50pm on Monday, May 26, the 39-year-old was walking in woods just off Storwood Close in Orrell. As he approached the bridge that runs across the M58 motorway, a man stepped out from a bush and punched him.

He fell to the ground before he was punched and kicked again before a second man told the offender to leave. Both ran off towards Storwood Close.

The first man is described as being white, 6ft 2in tall, in his late 30s, of large build, had short dark cropped hair and wore a dark coloured Nike top.

The second man is described as smaller than the first, wore dark clothing and spoke with a Liverpool accent.

Police Constable Martin Dickinson said: “This was a completely unprovoked and violent assault on a man who was simply taking his dog for a walk.

“The second man was not involved in the attack but did nothing to stop it from taking place. I would ask anyone who may have been in the area at the time or saw two men fitting the descriptions, running towards Storwood Close, to contact police.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
