Security guard threatened with axe

CASH was stolen from a security guard after he was threatened with an axe.

The guard was delivering cash to Poundstretcher on Tyldesley Road in Atherton shortly after 3pm on Friday when he was approached by three men, one of which had an axe.

They demanded the cash box before the security guard turned to run from the shop.

The three men, who were all wearing dark clothing and balaclavas, chased him and grabbed the cash box after the security guard stumbled.

They got into a grey coloured BMW and drove away towards Little Hulton.

Detective Constable Lynsey Watson said: “While the victim was not injured he has been left shaken by the incident.

“There would’ve been quite a lot of people around at the time so I would ask if anyone was in the area and saw the three men or the BMW making off at speed that they get in contact with us.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
