A PROLIFIC shoplifter was jailed for stealing from the same chemist where she regularly collected methadone scripts.

Jennifer Chasle admitted targeting a Lloyds Pharmacy in Atherton on January 5 before Wigan Magistrates’ Court.

Katie Beattie, prosecuting, told how the 35-year-old, who was well known to pharmacy staff, stole an electric toothbrush and razor worth £25.98.

The court heard that a member of staff spotted Chasle replacing items on the shelves before taking them off again. When the employee approached her, Chasle smiled and said “it’s all there” before hastily leaving the shop.

A subsequent check of in-store CCTV revealed she had hidden an electric toothbrush and a razor in her bag before leaving without paying.

Chasle’s solicitor said his client had a long history of drug abuse and petty shoplifting and had only been released from a 16-week jail term at the end of October.

But he argued that reimprisoning Chasle, of Warburton Place, Atherton, would not solve her problems adding she had recently given evidence in a court case after being the victim of a vicious assault. Magistrates jailed her for eight weeks.
