A WIGAN lawyer has warned social networking enthusiasts about the dangers it poses to their privacy.
Elspeth Hanna, a family law specialist with Pemberton-based Goddard Smith, spoke as it emerged that millions are logging off Facebook around the world.
Ms Hanna said: “I receive a lot of inquiries from clients whose relationships have been damaged in connection with Facebook which is often used to circulate negative comments about an ex.
“Confidential or sensitive information is often unintentionally disclosed.
“I have also encountered instances where parents are altering privacy settings to block child contact.
“There is no absolute guarantee of privacy with any social networking site.
“My advice is to exercise caution when using Facebook.
“If in doubt then don’t post.”
