Speeding car crashes into three sets of traffic lights near Wigan school, firefighters say

Firefighters were called to a town centre road following a late night collision which involved a vehicle taking out three sets of traffic light poles.

An engine fro Wigan fire station was called to Frog Lane, near the Deanery High School, around 9.50pm yesterday, Friday August 21.

A crew member said: "We had one car coming form the direction of Wigan and Leigh College, going too fast and lost control. It has then taken out three traffic light poles and missed an end terraced house by a few inches and took out a load of fencing."

The crew was at the scene for around one hour to make the road safe to reopen. Electricity crews were due to attend the scene today to rewire the damaged traffic lights.
