GRAVE robbers, séances, ghosts and ghouls? What is behind a number of forged keys to Wigan’s cemeteries?

The spooky events have been confirmed by cemetery bosses, who this week have had to change the locks on all of Wigan’s graveyards after it was revealed that a number of forged keys are in circulation.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that cemetery bosses at Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust (WLCT) have had to cut opening times at Wigan’s nine cemeteries, due to their operating funding being reduced by £6.4m because of the Government’s spending cuts.

Angry mourners claimed it prevents working people from visiting their loved ones’ graves.

A spokesman for WLCT confirmed that Wigan’s cemetery gates are now being “secured” at 4pm between October 1 to March 31, with full details of the changes posted on the cemetery gates “for a number of months”, along with the WLCT website.
