A WIGAN convenience store was forced to close for several hours after an attempted break-in.
Police don’t think the intruders managed to take anything from the Co-op on Pole Street in Standish when they set the alarm off in the early hours of Friday morning.
The store, which also has a Post Office inside, was closed at the time and was unable to open until 11am.
A Spokesperson for The Co-operative Food, confirmed: “An incident took place at our Pole Street, Standish, store in the early hours of this morning (Friday, 4 December) while the store was closed for the night.
“The store has re-opened after allowing time for the Police to investigate and we would appeal for anyone with information to come forward. We apologise to the community for any inconvenience caused during its temporary closure.”
A police spokesman added: “We were called just before 4.20am to an alarm that had been activated.
“There was some damage to the door at the back and it looks like someone had been inside. Anyone with any information is asked to call 101.”
