A mum has made into the finals of a plus size beauty contest.
Sophia Hardman, who started modelling after an abusive relationship left her lacking in confidence, is one of 11 women compete in the finals of Miss Plus Size UK in September.
The 26-year-old from Marsh Green is the only competitor from the North West to make it to the finals but she is still need of sponsors if she wants to win.
She said: “It is still all a bit overwhelming that I have made it to the finals. The support from my family and friends has been amazing.
“I have been to the boot camp for it and I am just trying to get more sponsors involved now. My daughter, Victoria, who is 20 months, has also been taking part in a few pageants as well over the past few months.
“I have a clothing sponsor for my casual wear who is based in Warrington and I have got an evening dress but it isn’t ideal.”
The finals are in Bournemouth on September 24 and will include a three course meal and live entertainment between each round for the audience.
The contestants will face three rounds, casual wear, swim wear and evening wear before the winner is announced.
Sophia said: “I have been modelling on and off for about two years. I started before I got pregnant and after I had my daughter I started back up again.
“I started because I had been in an abusive relationship and one of my friends said why don’t you try it’.
“So I did and it really helped to build my confidence.
“I really enjoy modelling because of the confidence it gives me. I don’t feel I have to conform to being size zero to be attractive.”
Miss Plus Size United Kingdom describes itself as a groundbreaking plus size beauty pageant open to big, beautiful women with the aim of promoting body confidence and inspiring women across the UK.
A statement on its website reads: “MPSUK is a competition where plus size women and their admirers can come together to celebrate the beauty of size in a non judgemental environment and show that some of us do actually appreciate our curves.
“Most importantly, we show that we are comfortable in our own skin and not intimidated by the continuous pressure from the media to fit into a certain size label to be deemed acceptable in society.”
