YOUNG pupils have been pulling together to help a cancer-stricken schoolmate get to America for pioneering treatment.
Woodfield Primary in Wigan Lane has been the focal point of many fund and profile-raising events in recent weeks in aid of Whitley four-year-old Emma Hoolin. She has been battling an aggressive tumour all year and while conventional therpaies have been working she needs specialist immunological treatment in Philadelphia to prevent a fatal relapse. It needs to take place within weeks and her family need £211,000 for the drugs!
But thanks to a massive and co-ordinated campaign the Hoolins are already well over half-way there. A Woodfield gala ball at Kilhey Court itself raised £26,000, the school has sold wrist bands and a it held a special World Day where everyone dressed in international costumes, released balloons and texted pledges to her fund.
