POLICE are investigating after a summerhouse in a back garden was completely destroyed by fire.

The outbuilding and its contents, including a pool table and garden furniture, were razed to the ground by the blaze which could be seen from several streets away.

Fire crews spent around three hours at the address on Harrow Road in Marsh Green after being called at around 1am on Sunday.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used jets to bring the fire under control before carefully searching through the wood to ensure the flames were completely out.

No-one was in the terraced house and the crews managed to stop the fire spreading beyond the garden, despite the flames being just six feet from neighbouring buildings.

The fire service carried out investigations at the scene and the incident has now been passed on to Greater Manchester Police (GMP).
