A WIGAN teen who died suddenly after a night out during her first few weeks at university was killed by meningococcal meningitis, police have confirmed.

Alisha Bartolini, 18, was found dead at student accommodation in Liverpool earlier this month, sparking an investigation by police.

Forensic reports released yesterday have now revealed she died from meningitis.

The 18-year-old, from Appley Bridge, is a former student of St John Rigby College and Abraham Guest High School.

She only became an undergraduate at Liverpool Hope University last month.

Shortly after her death, Alisha’s parents Michaela and Sean said: “Alisha was an intelligent, bubbly, popular girl who was much-loved by everyone in her family and all her friends.

“No-one can ever expect or prepare for losing a child at such a young age.

“It is every parent’s worst nightmare and we are utterly devastated. We are proud to have spent the time with her.

“We are however comforted by all the love and messages of support.”
