THE 2011 Wigan Town Centre Christmas Light Switch on Event is scheduled to be the best so far.

The free Christmas light switch-on event takes place on Thursday, November 17, between 4.30pm and 7.30pm in Market Place in the town centre and includes X-Factor Finalists The Risk, Hacker T Dog from BBC Children’s TV show Hacker Time, panto stars appearing in Sinderfella at the Dancehouse Theatre in Manchester.

Wigan Warriors Players Epalahame Lauaki and Jeff Lima along with the Warriors Girls and Club Mascot Max will appear on stage.

Live entertainment includes performances by Olly Jacob, local stars Scott Chapman and Kerry Casey and local band Resuce the Eskimo.

Also FLD Street Dance crew Mafia are performing in association with Team Latics, the Wigan Athletic young supporters club, along with Phoenix & Blue, the Wigan Athletic Club Mascots.

One lucky youngster and six friends have won the chance to have an exclusive audience with X-Factor finalists The Risk after they have performed at the town’s Christmas Light Switch-on event! The winners will not only meet them in the flesh, they will have their photograph taken with the band, get their autographs and ask them their questions!

On Sunday, November 20, Wigan town centre’s Santa and his reindeer parade starts at 1pm from Mesnes Park arriving at Market Place at 1.30pm. The parade includes marching bands, costume characters and over 300 parade participants. Following the parade, Santa and his reindeers remain in Market Place along with the performers until 4.30pm.

Richard Paxton, Centre Director of The Galleries commented: “Wigan Town Centre, The Galleries and Grand Arcade have organised a fantastic Christmas Spectacular in Wigan this year. We are sure that everyone will enjoy free entertainment provided!”

The Christmas light switch on event launches late night shopping in the town with shops open until 8pm.
