THE Big Bang opening of Wigan Youth Zone was a resounding success.
Thousands flocked to Mesnes Park where the festivities kicked off at 1pm yesterday (Saturday).
The event, for old and young alike, gave Wiganers a glimpse of exactly what the magnificent facility has to offer.
The weather proved to be an added bonus with the sun beating down on happy families all day.
The party continued at the Youth Zone when everyone moved across at around 3pm to get to look around after the offical ribbon cut.
Dave Whelan paraded the FA Cup and former Latics manager Roberto Martinez mingled with the crowds.
Food was served up and a battle of the bands competition took place before a spectacular firework display brought the event to a close marking the dawn of a new era in Wigan.
For just five pounds a year membership and 50p a visit youngsters of all ages can take advantage of the amazing facilities, including a massive climbing wall, football pitches, skate park, music room, dance studio, basketball courts, pool and table tennis tables and loads more.
