WIGAN was Dancing in the Moonlight last night until a flick of the switch turned on the town’s Christmas lights.
Headline act Toploader had the masses in good spirits as they belted out some of their classic hits.
They were joined on stage by a number of acts, both local and national, in night packed full of entertainment.
Kevin Simm, of Liberty X fame, Zoe Unsworth, Bailey McConnell, Harry Mondryk, REDD, Exposure, Tiger Heart, Britain’s Got Talent finalist 2012 Mr Zip and X Factor 2011 finalist Janet Devlin all performed.
The crowd was also treated to special appearances from Wigan Warriors Greg Burke and George Williams who got a big cheer from the crowd when they told them the side would definitely bring back the Super League title next season.
The Battle of the Buskers winner The Secrets played on the stage, having earned the right after a competition decided by a public vote. And Hacker T Dog from BBC children’s show Hacker Time also put in a guest appearance once again.
Representatives of the Joseph’s Goal charity were guests for the big switch-on too with helpers carrying out a bucket collection.
Joseph Kendrick, six, is the inspiration behind the charity which aims to find a cure for NKH from which he suffers.
And his three-year-old brother Sam was the one asked to perform the honour of flicking the switch to light up Wigan for the festive season.
The whole event was organised by Wigan Council, the Grand Arcade and the Galleries.
Grand Arcade manager John Sanson said: “I’m really pleased, we were really worried about the weather but the wind dropped.
“We’ve had a great line up with Toploader, Bailey, Hacker T Dog who took everyone by storm.”
