Driver cut from car after M6 accident at Wigan junction

A motorist had to be cut from his vehicle after ploughing into a street light at a motorway junction in Wigan.

The driver of the Vauxhall Astra and his passenger were both taken to hospital following the incident at junction 25 of the M6 at Marus Bridge at around 10.30pm on Sunday.

The motorist and his female passenger complained of chest and neck pains and both went to Salford Royal Infirmary.

Police and Highways England also attended the scene and the entire southbound carriageway was briefly closed while the debris was collected and the scene made safe.

The emergency services were there for around 45 minutes.
