Fire crews battle suspicious grass blaze for hours
A massive grass fire on open land in the borough is believed to have been started deliberately.
Fire crews were called to the site off Park Road in Hindley at around 1pm on Saturday.

They found a large blaze covering around 100 metres by 40 metres with grass and trees well alight.
Firefighters used hose reels to tackle some of the flames but also had to physically beat the fire while shuttling enough water to the site for the operation.
It was a long, tiring effort in the hot afternoon sun which took almost three hours to complete.
The fire is thought to have been lit on purpose and the police will be informed.
The incident was attended by fire engines from Crewe station covering the borough while local firefighters headed out to tackle major moorland incidents in the region.
Thankfully the flames did not spread beyond the open land, although there were concerns at one stage that it might engulf nearby farming fields.
