Traffic disruption after lorry sheds load

ONE of the borough’s busiest arterial routes, Rectory Lane in Standish, has been blocked after a lorry and its HGV trailer became temporarily lodged under the bridge carrying the West Coast Main Railway Line.

The truck was carrying boxes of spirits including cases of vodka and police were quickly on the scene after the driver reported that damage to the trailer had left his load insecure.

It caused significant disruption because the road is part of a through-route used by traffic connecting the M6 with the M61 motorway. Network Rail also checked that the integrity of the bridge had not been damaged.
