All lanes reopen on M61 after crash involving HGV near Chorley

All three lanes on the M61 northbound were blocked due to the position of a HGV after an earlier collision.

All three lanes on the M61 northbound were blocked due to a collision between junctions 5 (Wigan) and 6 (Horwich).

A HGV reportedly struck the central reservation, according to the AA.

The incident occurred at around 8.40am today (February 27).

Ambulance crews and police attended the scene.

No injuries have been reported following the collision.

A spokesperson for Highways said: "The M61 northbound J5 (Wigan Bolton Westhoughton A58) to J6 (Horwich Chorley A6027 A6).

"All lanes are blocked due to a collision.

"North West Ambulance Service are currently at scene.

"Traffic Officers, recovery and maintenance crews are on their way to the area to assist."

Highways have confirmed that all lanes have now re-opened.

There were 60 minute delays on the approach to this incident spanning three miles back to junction 4, according to Highways.

Traffic Officers stopped the carriageway while they cleared debris out of lanes one and two.

This is was the second collision to take place in the area during rush hour.
