A police spokesman said: "Officers were called to Wigan Road, Atherton, to a report of a road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian.

"Emergency services are currently in attendance."

Wigan Road has been closed between Atherleigh Way and Liscard Street and it is understood that traffic is building up in the area, so motorists are advised to use a different route if possible.
