Alice O’Sullivan, a senior lecturer from the school of social work, said: “Staff and students at UCLan were deeply shocked to hear of the death of Carly Potts.

“Carly was a friendly member of the community and social care course and her warm personality had a positive impact on the group as a whole.

“She was well liked by her lecturers and her peers and had many good friends on the course.

“She will be missed by peers and staff, and our regret is that her potential will now remain unrealised.

“The whole school would like to send their most sincere condolences to her friends and family.”

Carly, who was born in Cyprus, lived in New Hall Lane. A post mortem found she died from hanging.

Friends posted tributes on Facebook following her death. Emma Ellwick Mcdowall wrote: “RIP Carly. So many times you made others laugh. It was never a dull moment with you around. Heaven has gained a bright colourful angel. You will be missed.”
