Tributes paid to a “loving son”

RELATIVES of a motorcyclist who was killed on a canal towpath have today paid tribute to the teenager.

Ben Oliver Keen was fatally injured in a collision with a cyclist on the Bridgewater canal towpath off Manchester Road, Leigh, on Tuesday afternoon.

The 19-year-old was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

In a statement issued through the police, his family said: “Ben was a loving son, brother and grandson.

“He will be sadly missed by all his family and many friends.”

A 53-year-old cyclist suffered minor arm injuries, while an 18-year-old passenger on the motorbike escaped unscathed.

Floral tributes have been laid at the scene of the crash, near Leigh Spinners Mill.

Officers are still keen to speak to witnesses and anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 4742.
