A MOTORBIKE racer who survived a 120mph horror crash at the Isle of Man TT has been transferred to Wigan to see a specialist in a bid to save his hand.

Ben Birchall was a pillion passenger in the Sidecar race at the world-famous annual motorcycle event on Saturday when his brother, Tom, lost control of their bike at the Black Dub section of the course.

Ben’s hand became trapped after they clipped a wall and after being airlifted to Nobles Hospital in the island’s capital, Douglas, it was decided Ben should be transferred to Wigan Infirmary where a hand specialist will assess his injury.

Ben’s brother Tom said: “The specialist is top-notch and was the guy who sorted out John McGuinness’ injury a while back, so Ben is in good hands.

“We have to thank the marshals and medics who came to our assistance on Saturday.”

Hospital chiefs at Wigan Infirmary would not confirm which specialist was treating the TT star yesterday.
