TWO people have been injured in a collision on the southbound carriageway of the M6.

Police were called to the motorway between junction 27 at Standish and junction 26 at Orrell following reports a car and a HGV had collided just before 4pm this afternoon (Tuesday).

Two lanes of the motorway’s southbound carriageway were blocked but have now re-opened. The incident has caused considerable congestion with traffic tailing back as far as Charnock Richard services at one point.

The extent of the injuries is not known.
