The caravan had been abandoned in a lane behind the houses for some time and the fire is being treated as suspicious.

A crew from Leigh were then called to a car fire at around 2.10am this morning on Lakeside in Leigh.

When they arrived they found a Citroen C2 had been completely destroyed by fire.

Crew manager Mark Anderson said: “We believe the fire had a suspicious cause and the matter has been passed to the police for them to investigate..

“The car had been parked on the road for a while and had been completely destroyed. We think someone may have deliberately set it on fire.”
