The proposals would see a new home shopping ‘pod’ at the front of the store to create additional storage space and an external van canopy and loading area to relocate the four van loading spaces.

Plans also consists of a relocated and improved customer collection point.

The bid aims to improve the existing home shopping facility, which is currently based within the service yard at the back of the supermarket. The plans are part of Asda’s ‘Feeding the Nation’ programme, which commits to improve its home shopping services.

In its design and access statement on behalf of Asda, agent C+A Design, said: “The Asda Home Shopping service provides the option for their customers to shop online.

“The home shopping storage pod is used as a storage area where groceries, which have been picked from the retail shop floor, are collected and stored and ready for dispatch.

“The goods will then be loaded onto small delivery vehicles, which will be parked under a canopy and delivered to customers within the local area during specific time slots throughout the day.

“The proposed works provide additional home shopping capacity through increased storage space with a new building.

“A new open sided van canopy is proposed to accommodate four vans to provide weather protection to the Asda colleagues and the home shopping totes while the vehicles are being loaded.

“The customer click and collect canopy is be installed to improve customer experience and speed of s

ervice.”

The grocery collection facility will have three loading bays and three waiting bays. This will take up six disabled and six parent and child parking spaces which will be reinstated.

The statement adds: “The increased provision is to meet both current and future demand for the home shopping offer.

“The operation is considerate to the site’s neighbours, environment, customers and colleagues alike.

“The operation will have minimal impact on the existing Asda site operations or neighbouring uses, therefore the scheme should be consented.”
