Wigan Council is continuing to offer direct support to all care homes and care providers across the borough, including providing personal protective equipment (PPE) sourced by the local authority with a commitment of more to come.

Council leader Coun David Molyneux, said: “We have seen countless examples of the community rallying behind all public services as we tackle this unprecedented situation.

“These examples highlight the spirit we have here in our borough and we are extremely grateful for the donations of equipment to help our tremendous frontline staff. I would like to thank everyone involved.”

Natalie Jones, manager at Heathside, said: “We have received a lot of generosity from the community and we are extremely grateful for all the support.

“We’d like to pass on a massive thank you from all of the team here, it means a lot to us.”

The protective masks, which have also been delivered to NHS facilities, were produced by design technology technician Paul Glynn and his daughter Jessica, a former head girl at the school.

Acting headteacher Heather Clare said: “We are so grateful to Mr Glynn and Jessica for giving up their time over the Easter holidays to support the local community.

“We are also grateful to the community who have donated resources so we can make the masks. It is great to see so many other schools mobilising their DT departments in doing the same to support the Covid-19 crisis.”
