FIREFIGHTERS in Wigan are set for another round of industrial action in their union’s dispute with the Government over pensions.

The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) announced yesterday four hour strikes on December 13 and 14 starting at 6pm.

Firefighters across England have already been on strike four times since September, back up crews have been in operation in Greater Manchester during those hours.

The union opposes a rise of the retirement age from 55 to 60 and plans to raise firefighters’ individual pension contributions.

Minsters maintain that fire service pensions are among the best in the public sector.

FBU secretary Matt Wrack said: “The Government is ignoring our members’ concerns.”
