POLICE are appealing for witnesses after the armed robbery of a cash box at Asda.

At around 8.05am this morning (Friday), a cash transit delivery driver was carrying out a scheduled drop-off at Asda on Soho Street, Wigan, when she was threatened by a man with a knife.

Having snatched the cash box, the offender jumped into a blue saloon car - possibly a Renault Laguna which had a partial registration of DG55 - and drive off towards Saddle Junction.

At about 9.25am a member of the public found a cash box within Haigh Country Park close to Sennicar Lane.

It is believed that this could be the stolen cash box.

The offender is described as white, around 5ft 7in, average build and was wearing a black balaclava, grey tracksuit bottoms and a dark-coloured jacket edged in red.

Detective Sergeant Nigel Rigby said: “We need members of the public to come forward and give us details of what they may have seen at the Asda on Soho Street this morning.

“Any description of the man wielding the knife, or the car he drove off in, would assist the investigation.

“Likewise, if anyone was walking in Haigh Country Park this morning and saw this blue saloon or anyone acting suspiciously, please contact police as a matter of urgency.”
