A father who systematically raped and abused his own children - including making them indulge in sick sex games while he watched - has been put behind bars for life.
The 50-year-old pervert’s depth of depravity shocked everyone involved with the case including the judge who presided over his trial during which his victims had to relive their terrible ordeals at his hands.
He was found guilty of sexually abusing five of his children, beginning when some were just six years old, and who all lived in a state of unbelievable neglect while his “bone idle” wife sat watching television while “chaos reigned around her’.
Jailing the man, who cannot be identified to protect his victims, Judge Andrew Menary, QC said. “It is impossible to overstate the appalling nature of this offending or the depths of depravity exhibited by you over many years towards your own children or the profound and obvious harm that you have caused to each complainant.”
He said that they have all been affected by their experiences and tragically it was likely that the three most seriously abused “will never get over their ordeal. If not ruined, their lives have been substantially damaged.
“The accounts they gave were often heartbreaking and it is shocking, to say the least, that the family circumstances like the one endured by these children and their other siblings can exist and be allowed to exist in modern day Britain.”
The judge said that they had been used “day in day out by their father as playthings for his own sexual gratification.”
Liverpool Crown Court heard that he had forced three of his sons, when they were about seven, to perform sex acts on each other and have sexual intercourse with two of their sisters while he watched.
Setting out the “hopelessness of their plight” Judge Menary said that the defendant and his partner, who lived in Skelmersdale, had other children, who fortunately for them had been taken into care and adopted.
The victims lived in utter neglect while their mother was unable or unwilling to provide the usual love, support and protection they needed and deserved.
The judge said that while there was some evidence she had herself been abused by the defendant, a care agency belatedly brought in by social services described her as “bone idle and sat and watched TV while chaos reigned around her. She sat in a chair and didn’t life a finger.”
The children were inadequately fed or clothed, were encouraged to run round naked and they were seen out in the street in winter without any clothes on.
An official from the care company described it as the most difficult family he had to work with out.
The father began raping one of his daughters and one of his sons when they were just six years old.
He continued that behaviour with that boy for about four years and with the girl for about 12 years.
The children began to be taken into care but the abuse did not end and he continued raping two of his daughters when they came home for visits or ran away from children homes.
Judge Menary told the defendant that he had no doubt he was dangerous.
He jailed him for life with a minimum term of 14 years before he can apply to the Parole Board to be freed. He was ordered to sign on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
Some of his victims sat crying in the public gallery and as the man was led to the cells one distraught daughter shouted out, “daddy I love you.”
