Video emerges of ugly scenes at controversial amateur rugby match

Footage has emerged from the amateur rugby league match between Orrell St James and West Bank in which ugly events led to the Widnes side being removed from the competition.

The video, from the North West Men's League game last weekend which St James won, shows spectators being abusive while players try to intervene.

West Bank's conduct has been complained about before, with some clubs preferring to concede points than play against them.

“They were approached in April and asked to smarten-up,” said NW Men’s League Chairman Stuart Prior.

“It is more from a spectators’ point of view than a playing one.

“No one has the right to verbally threaten an official, player or other spectator with the intent to cause harm."

Widnes West Bank have been approached for comment.
