Hundreds of cyclists with weary legs will be proudly showing off their medals today after completing the Wigan Bike Ride.

The event returned yesterday for the second year to raise money for Joining Jack, which funds research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

The main ride saw cyclists set off from Mesnes Park and complete a 50-mile route through Lancashire.

It had to be diverted because of the moorland fires at Winter Hill, so took in Parbold rather than the notorious Sheep House Lane.

A team of rugby league “legends” were among the cyclists tackling the course.

And former Wigan Warriors star Josh Charnley took part in the family ride, which covered five miles.

His bike was attached to a tagalong carrying his son Arlo and 10-year-old Jack Johnson, the inspiration behind Joining Jack.

Spectators could enjoy a host of entertainment at Mesnes Park, including a climbing wall and stalls selling food and drinks.
