A COLLAPSED wall forced part of Standishgate to be shut early this morning.
Crew Crews from Wigan Fire Station were called to a three-storey derelict building not long after midnight.
Two fire engines were sent to Standishgate at 12.36am where a wall measuring approximately 10 metres by 12 metres had collapsed.
There were no reports of fire or people being trapped inside but crews requested a USAR (Urban Search and Rescue) team member – who is experienced at working in collapsed structures – to attend the scene and help search the building.
Police and a representative from the gas board attended. The road was closed and a cordon was set up while emergency services worked at the scene.
Nobody was discovered inside the building and there were no signs that anyone had been inside.
A local authority dangerous building inspector was called and fire crews left the scene after making it safe at around 3am.
The incident was left in the hands of police and the dangerous building inspector.
