STAR Wars fan Tom McCooey is in Tattoo-ine heaven – after having Han Solo inked across his back!

The 24-year-old certainly felt the force when he spent a gruelling five hours paying homage to his favourite movie.

The design – featuring Harrison Ford’s character from the iconic 1977 film – covers most of his right shoulder-blade.

And judges at the Bolton Tattoo Bazaar were certainly impressed - he won best artwork in the ‘black and grey’ category last Saturday, just hours after having his ‘dark side’ inscribed!

Tom, from Orrell, said: “I’ve loved Star Wars since I was five, and Han Solo is the coolest character. I’m amazed with it, and I’ve shown it to my friends, and everyone thinks it’s great.”

In the hit movie, Han Solo met Luke Skywalker on the planet Tattooine.

Tom also has his favourite book and sports quote inked across his body - To Kill a Mockingbird features on a ‘sleeve’ on his arm, and Muhammed Ali’s ‘It ain’t bragging if you can back it up’ emblazoned across chest.

The freelance journalist only decided on his latest addition at the last minute.

He said: “I’ve always wanted one, and the artist told me he had no-one to work on at the Bolton Bazaar so I thought, ‘Why not?’

“I completely trusted him so I knew it was going to be good, but even I was surprised at just how good it is.”

Rugby league fan Tom – who contributes to League Express newspaper and Wigan Warriors’ website – added: “I’m hooked now, I’m going to keep going until my body is covered!

“But I’m not sure about further Star Wars ones. We’ll see.”

This is not the first time he has found himself on the pages on the Evening Post. His former band Gekko were featured in our pages six years ago when they supported Bon Jovi at Manchester City’s ground.
