While a girl's hair can be her crowing glory, the current Junior Miss Wigan is showing her caring side by using it to help poorly children.

Seven-year-old Nevaeh Pointer took the title in a pageant held in May and has been raising money for Wigan And Leigh Hospice and UK Sepsis.

Now she is turning her attention to Little Princess Trust, a charity which makes wigs for children who have lost their own hair due to cancer treatment.

Between eight and 10 inches of Nevaeh’s long hair will be cut off next month and sent to the charity so it can be used for a wig.

Her mother Andrea Johnson, from Norley, said: “It was something I mentioned last year. She was having her hair cut and had five inches off then. At the time my hairdresser said she could have donated eight inches, but she thought she might be a bit young.

“I mentioned it to her again and she decided to do it.”

Nevaeh, a pupil at St John’s Primary School in Pemberton, has very long hair which her mother says grows quickly.

She will go under the scissors at Perfect 10 hair salon, in Pemberton, on Saturday, July 21.

A decision about the amount to be cut off will be made on the day.

As well as donating her hair, Nevaeh is raising money for Little Princess Trust and has so far reached £73.

Andrea said: “They can’t make certain wigs so they have to buy them, so they do need money as well.”

She said she was “very proud” of her daughter.

If you would like to make a donation to Neveah’s appeal, there will be a collection box at Perfect 10.

Alternatively, donations can be made directly by contacting Andrea via the Junior Miss Wigan 2018/2019 Facebook page.
