Wigan pensioner stands trial for child sex abuse charges

A Wigan pensioner is facing child sex abuse charges in a trial taking place this week.

The trial of Ronald Peters, of Petticoat Lane in Ince, has opened at Bolton Crown Court this week.

He has been accused of nine charges of crimes against girls under the age of 14.

Peters has pleaded not guilty to all counts.

The 73-year-old has been accused of committing acts of indecent assault against a girl under the age of 13 and acts of gross indecency against a girl under the age of 14.

On his first appearance at Wigan Magistrates’ Court in early 2017, Peters was charged in relation to incidents which reportedly took place between 1983 and 2016.

He was released on conditional bail.
