Young Wigan singer Henry Gallagher isn’t a stranger to appearing on TV talent shows, and now neither is his mum!
The 15-year-old narrowly missed out on the final Britain’s Got Talent two years ago, but with his appearances on BBC show Got What It Takes, he has yet another chance at glory.
And he’s even recruited mum Marie to the cause.
The show guides eight teen singers through the highs and lows of the music industry, and there’s a twist - the show’s set up saw each contestant’s mother appear as a judge, also taking on challenges in their own right.
While Henry was song writing and dancing with professionals from Strictly Come Dancing, Marie was being thrashed around in speed coats and sports cars, as well as taking on obstacle courses and dressing like a chicken.
Marie said: “I didn’t want to do it at all. But the worst thing was that I didn’t want to let Henry down. So then I was kind of persuaded into it.”
She added: “Once I got there I thought I might as well go for it. I ended up really enjoying it!”
Henry said of the show: “It was a bit crazy. If us kids won a challenge and our mums won theirs, we got to perform more.
“Before the show, she wasn’t too keen, she was really nervous. But she did a lot better than she thought she would.”
Should Henry go all the way in the competition, he will get the lucrative opportunity to perform at the Radio 1 Big Weekend festival at the end of May.
“It would be amazing,” Henry said about the prospect. “I’m definitely hopeful.”
Henry, a Standish High pupil, took Britain’s Got Talent by storm in 2015, and narrowly missed out on a place in the final.
He then embarked on a tour last year, debuting a number of new tracks and performing his most popular hit, Lightning, which he performed in front of the nation during his talent show journey.
The semi-final of Got What It Takes takes place tonight on CBBC from 5.30pm, after which voting for the final will open for 24 hours. Voting is free, and is a great chance for Wiganers to get behind a local performer. To vote for Henry, visit bbc.co.uk/cbbc/shows/got-what-it-takes
