Wigan will be the scene of new horror flick

David Stokes and Iain Cash are working with British Youth Film Association produce and promote their feature-length script of Hellion.

The film is described as a horror adventure, set in a school and it is expected that scenes will be shot in July.

David said: “It is a really good script and we are really looking forward to it.”

The news comes as he and Iain - who hails from Winstanley - are now looking for people to help in post-production on another project - a short film called Trust, which is about a young woman who is helped by a stranger but she doesn’t know if she can trust him or if she’s just being paranoid.

For that film the team filmed at various locations across the borough, including outside Wigan Police Station and a car park in Platt Bridge and now David and Iain are on the search for more people to get involved to help complete the project.

David, a 40-year-old from Platt Bridge, said: “The great thing about this film is that we managed to make it for what’s considered a zero budget.

“Everyone believed in the project and agreed to work for free. The actors - Rhiannon Jones, Jules Horsfield and Gary Hogan - were great in working for no charge.

“Iain, who has worked on a Derren Brown special and was a camera operator on Most Haunted among other projects, also acted in the film.

“We even have a composer who’s agreed to create music for our film for nothing.

“The kindness I’ve received is quite staggering. It’s taken a lot of work to get there but we’ve accomplished something I’m very proud of.

“We’re hoping to enter the film into short film festivals once it’s completed and hopefully use it as a calling card to show people what can be achieved on film with no money but a lot of commitment and hard work.

“We are now looking for people to help us with the post-production of the film, especially any producers who would like to come on board.”

David, a professional screenwriter, is also working with a director to re-write his own screenplay, Necessary Evil, which has gained international interest.

He added: “I have always written stories as a kid, and my dad, David, wrote screenplays for fun. He passed away recently and so it was doubly important for me to get something produced.

“I put Necessary Evil on a website, Trigger Street Labs, formed by Kevin Spacey, and it got brilliant reviews. I am trying to sell the play and working with a director.”
