Hundreds of WIganers watched England bow out at the semi-final stage of the World Cup in the town centre pubs after an epic battle with Croatia.

The mood was a sombre one on King Street after England's 2-1 extra-time loss especially after it all looked to be going so well for Gareth Southgate's team who took the lead after just five minutes from a Keiran Trippier free-kick.

England could have wrapped it up in the first half missing a host of chances but a goal by Ivan Perisic on 70 minutes and one in extra time by Mario Mandzukic were enough to knock England out of the tournament.

England's players were inconsolable at the final whistle as the dream was snatched away but they can take great pride and credit from this World Cup - virtually written off before a ball had been kicked.
