POLICE in Wigan are appealing for witnesses after a report that a man tried to kidnap a teenage girl.

At about 11am on 6 March 2015, police were called to Upper Diconsson Street, Wigan, following reports a man had grabbed a 17-year-old girl by the arm.

I want to reassure people in the community who may be anxious that we have arrested and charged one man following our inquiries

Detective Sergeant Graham Clare

The man had appeared to follow the young girl initially and then grabbed her forcibly by the arm and pulled her toward him.

He only released his grasp when he was startled by a passing car.

Lee Milady, 36, of Acton Street, Wigan, is charged with attempted kidnap and is due before Wigan Magistrates’ Court today, 9 March 2015.

Police are continuing to appeal to anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Graham Clare said: “I want to reassure people in the community who may be anxious that we have arrested and charged one man following our inquiries.

“Because this matter will now be put before the courts we cannot say anything further.

“However, I do want to ask anyone who witnessed this incident to come forward. It happened on a busy road in broad daylight, so there may well be motorists or passers-by who witnessed what happened.

“If you did see what happened then please call us.”
