A WOMAN was taken to hospital after a car ended up on its side in a road crash.
The incident involving a Ford Fiesta happened on Wigan Road in Abram at around 1am on Sunday.
The woman was trapped inside the vehicle, which was on its side near a grass verge, and firefighters rescued her through the rear of the car using a spinal board and casualty straps.
She suffered a suspected arm injury and was taken to Wigan Infirmary by the ambulance service.
No-one else was injured in the incident, which happened near Dover Lock, and no-one else was trapped in the car. It is unclear how many people were travelling in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Officers from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) closed the road in both directions while the rescue operation took place.
Firefighters left the scene in the hands of the police after a rescue lasting around 45 minutes.
