A TERRIFIED woman was dragged from her car and viciously assaulted at a Wigan supermarket just yards from the front door of the store by two vile thugs who drove off in her vehicle.

During the attack, the 46-year-old woman was thrown to the ground and punched before the thieves stole the car.

She was subjected to the horrific ordeal at the Tesco Extra in Whelley on Sunday night.

At about 8.10pm, two men approached the woman who was sitting in her Mitsubishi Shogun, registration WM03 PSZ.

The offenders demanded her keys and when she refused they dragged her out of the car, threw her to the ground and punched her in the chest.

The pair then snatched the keys and drove off towards Aspull at speed.

The woman was not seriously injured but was left shaken.

The offenders are described as being of large build and both were wearing balaclavas.

Police are now hunting for the pair and are encouraging any witnesses to come forward.

The car has still not been recovered and it is hoped that by releasing its registration, that could go some way to tracking down the culprits involved.

Detective Sergeant Steve Baldam said: “Clearly this was terrifying for the woman.

“She had just got into her car from the store when she was confronted by two burly car thieves.

“They threatened and assaulted her before snatching her car keys and driving off with her car.

“If anyone has any information about this incident, including details of the offenders or the vehicle, please get in touch.”
