You won't believe what this Wigan artist's mini artwork is made from

Micro-artist Hedley Wiggan never bridles at working in new media.

And he found one with one of his latest creations: a horse’s tooth! While best known for carving tiny elaborate sculptures on pencil tips, the Wigan-based craftsman is always keen to experiment in other areas.

In fact one sideline has involved using dead insects he has found for little installations. And this tooth is another discarded piece of nature that he set to work on; and what more appropriate subject than prancing horses?

Back from several months exhibiting in Australia, Hedley has also produced a series of miniature cameo oil paintings using a single hair from a paintbrush. As a finishing touch he added gold leaf to the frames.

His works are in demand all over the world and among his other new creations are pencil sculptures of Laurel and Hardy as featured in the Post last week.
