WIGAN Youth Zone has unveiled plans for a new student union-style non-alcoholic bar for its older members in the former Drumcroon building.

Opening on September 26, The Venue will provide a place for members aged over 16 to meet friends and relax.

It will be run by project manager Andy Jackson, who has been based at Wigan Youth Zone for the past two months, after spending time at The Factory Youth Zone in Manchester.

Andy has unveiled the exciting new plans he has in store for The Venue and has already been talking with young adults who are already Youth Zone members as well as other teens who aren’t.

He said: “What we’ve noticed is there’s a real lack of places for young adults to meet their friends like an adult would in a coffee shop or something.

“It will be run in a way where there’s additional support too as well as different events and activities. If they want to run a five-a-side tournament, we can fix that, if they want a band night, we can do that.”

The Venue will be open Thursday to Saturday between 6pm and 10.30pm. Anyone wanting more information can contact Andy on 01942 612061, email andy.jackson@wiganyouthzone.org or tweet @TheVenueWigan.

The old art education centre and a newly-built extension will also be home to Hop, Skip and Jump which will provide respite care for young people with disabilities. The Youth Zone will also be working with Wigan Council to implement an IT employment hub in the building.
