Adrian Lam reacts to Wigan Warriors' victory against Wakefield Trinity

Harry Smith struck a drop-goal which secured a 23-22 win against Wakefield at Leeds' Headingley.

They had looked comfortably in control as they led 22-6 early in the second-half.

But a stunning try from Tom Johnstone threw Trinity a lifeline and a Liam Kay double - sandwiching Smith's drop-goal - set up a nail-biting finish.

Lam said: "I'm pretty happy, it got tense towards the end but for the majority of the game we felt safe.

"There were some really positive signs and we can improve.

"As a team we could have finished our sets a lot better, I thought we could have scored a few more tries, but it's only game one of the restart."

Lam lost Thomas Leuluai early to a rolled ankle and had to rejig his side when Bevan French took a heavy knock on the back. The livewire Aussie moved to the wing in a switch which saw Zak Hardaker retake the No.1 role.

"I thought Zak was outstanding," said Lam. "And he made me laugh a few times on the sidelines, hearing what he's saying... he's so passionate."

Smith, 20, played down his drop goal heroics, saying: "Give credit to Sam Powell. He was shouting at me to do it the set before so I had to do it. Luckily it went in off the post and we got the win."

Trinity coach Chris Chester: "It was really disappointing, we gave Wigan far too much respect in the first half.

"Some guys were guilty of trying to over play, but I was happy with the effort and with a minute to go it could have gone either way. It was a tale of two halves.

"It was a world class finish from Tom, he had no right to score that try and that put us back into the game."

Wigan are next in action against Leeds on Saturday at St Helens, in another behind-closed-door televised match.
