Third man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after 'shotgun' attack in Skelmersdale

Concerned residents called 999 after hearing a gunshot in the Ennerdale area of Skelmersdale at around 9.30pm on Sunday (September 6).

Emergency crews rushed to the scene where they discovered a man, aged in his 20s, at a property with a wound to his leg - believed to have been caused by a shotgun.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A 27-year-old man, from Skelmersdale, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder yesterday (September 9). He currently remains in custody.

Two Skelmersdale men, aged 20 and 36, were arrested on on suspicion of attempted murder on Tuesday (September 8), but they have since been released on bail until October 6.

DCI Zoe Russo, of Lancashire's Force Major Investigation Team, said: "We appreciate this will have caused concern in the community but we would like to reassure people that our investigation is very much ongoing.

"We are continuing to ask anybody with information about the incident to get in touch with us as soon as possible. Perhaps you were in the area and saw all or part of what happened, or perhaps you have heard something and believe you know who may be responsible.

"Whatever information you have we would urge you to get in touch with us."
