Police issue warning about electric bikes

A social media post said residents should make sure their two-wheeled vehicles are road legal before riding them.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) posted pictures on Facebook of two electric bikes and said it was against the law to ride either of them on the road.

The post, which appeared on Thursday afternoon, said the riders of the vehicles had been reported for using a motor vehicle without a licence or insurance.

The post said: "To be clear - the electric bikes seen here are NOT road legal. If used on a road or other public place they can and will be seized.

"If you are planning on buying and riding an electric bike of this nature, then you should educate yourself."

The post appeared on the GMP Leigh, Atherton and Hindley page on Facebook.

Dozens of comments were posted in response, with some residents raising issues with the use of bikes in their area.
