Amateur football round-up: Harrison keeps St Aidan's on course for Cup joy

Wigan Amateur League

Holders Winstanley St Aidan’s marched into the quarter- finals of the Lancashire Amateur Cup with an impressive 2-0 win at fancied Rochdalians.

The visitors were on top from the start and it was no surprise when Jamie Harrison fired home.

Little was seen of the home side who only threatened from the odd free kick.

The second half saw Joe Hull brought down in the penalty area and Harrison smashed home the resultant spot kick.

Winstanley then comfortably held on for a convincing victory.

Rochdalians are currently top of the Lancashire and Cheshire League Premier Division having lost just one game all season.

Sadly, the games involving Leigh Foundry, Newburgh and Pemberton fell victim to the weather and will now be rescheduled for January 5.

All games in the Garswood Trophies Premier Division were postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

In Fleet Dynamic Signs & Graphics Division One Digmoor lost their unbeaten record at lowly Hag Fold, who beat the Title Chasers 4-2 with Chris Hutchinson grabbing a hat trick and

Scott Gregory getting the other.

Digmoor led at one point but in the end succumbed on a mud bath of a pitch with Mario Bonetta getting both their goals.

Daten, who are also close to the bottom, edged out Ormskirk, who were third at kick off, 2-1 as Jack Challinor and Jack Hodgkiss got the Daten goals.

Andy Jevons replied for Ormskirk.

Gidlow Athletic won 3-1 at Goose Green United with goals from Karl Davidson who got two and Dale Hardman the other while

Kieran Madden netted for United.

Whelley struggled at title rivals Digmoor Res as they took their precious 100 per cent league record to Blagugate.

Their hosts turned on a terrific performance to beat the top dogs 6-0 with top striker Zac Alger getting a hat trick.

Adam Lewis scored two and Frankie Draycott the other.

Toby Celtic and Ashton Villa shared the spoils 3-3 as Josh Woods with two and Leon Sayer netted for Celtic.

Liam McQuade scored two and veteran Craig Holland the other.

Villa trailed 3-0 earlier and equalised in injury time.

FC Westhoughton had a bad day at Eccleston, going down 7-1 in the Laithwaite Shield.

The Bolton side, who could only raise nine men, were outplayed as Matty Pape with a hat trick, Dan Horton, Mike Woods, Harry Hardman and Chris Brown scored with Declan Horrocks replying for the losers. The rest of the games were postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

Town Green played hosts to Wigan Cosmos and could have topped the Premier Division, but instead crashed 5-1.

James Harrison struck a hat-trick but Darcio Ferreira was man of the match with three assists and a goal.

He was a constant thorn to Town Green.

Ferreira started the move for the first goal after only five minutes when he played a lovely ball to John Rigby who set-up Tom Jagne.

He passed to Ferreira who finished left-footed from the edge of the box.

On 33 minutes it was 2-0 as Harrison scored his first after beating three men in the box when Ferreira supplied the through ball.

Town Green pulled a goal back when Jay Parkin went past two defenders to slot home after Mattias Lorkuta supplied the ball from good work by Jomari Cabiles.

Town Green started the second half well, but it was Cosmos who made it 3-1 when Harrison scored after good work by Ferreira.

Cabiles broke through and looked well to score for Green but his shot was well-saved by Keiron Seeds in the Cosmos goal.

Town Green then had a man sent off for serious foul play, and Harrison made them pay with his hat-trick goal when he delightfully went round the keeper to slot the ball home. Again, Ferreira provided the assist.

Jagne and Matty Lewis played well for Cosmos, who scored a fifth goal when Ed Green slotted home.

The win moves Wigan Cosmos into fourth spot.

New Street moved up to second in the table with a crushing 12-1 win against bottom club Pennington.

In Division Three St Helens Rovers visited Ormskirk Cavaliers and won 2-1 to move up to mid-table.

Division Two’s Centurion AFC won for only the second time this season when they came from behind to beat Belle Vue Rangers 4-3.

In the Liverpool County FA Intermediate Cup, Clay Brow Reserves moved into the semi-final by beating St Michael’s 6-2.
