Caldwell's praise for Wabara's attitude

GARY Caldwell has hailed Reece Wabara's attitude after the former Manchester City junior returned to the fold last weekend.

Wabara was left out for the Sheffield United clash on February 6, but returned for the goalless draw at home to Oldham, and impressed his manager.

And ahead of Latics’ promotion six-pointer with Walsall this coming Saturday, Caldwell said Wabara can act as an example to the rest of the squad.

“When he was called upon in the second half (at Sheffield United), he went on and showed a tremendous response,” he said.

“Reece was the player who missed out last week because of a tactical change.

“I spoke to him about it, he took it like a top professional and a team player.”

Caldwell added that the 24-year-old’s professionalism will be required of the whole squad as the season progresses.

“That’s what we’re going to need from every player between now and the end of the season,” he said.

“Every game will be unique, and the team we pick is picked to win that individual game.

“That is another thing that pleases me – that I don’t just have 11 players but a whole squads that understands what it’s going to take to be successful.”

A win at Banks’s Stadium for Latics on Saturday would definitely lift them above the Midlands outfit, and could even fire them into the automatic promotion places if struggling Oldham can frustrate Gillingham in the same way they did Caldwell’s men last Saturday.
