Craig was born to do it!
Craig Davies fully deserved all the plaudits in midweek after busting a gut to get back into the Wigan Athletic side.
That’s the message from boss Gary Caldwell, who threw the big striker on for the last six minutes against Birmingham and saw him net his first goal in almost a year to send Latics to Nottingham Forest tomorrow unbeaten in two.
“Craig was there to put it in, and that’s the hardest part,” Caldwell acknowledged.
“And he deserves that. He’s worked extremely hard in recent weeks and not really had the opportunities he would have liked.
“But he’s showed great professionalism and that gets you the rewards.”
Davies and Will Grigg caused havoc in tandem during their short time together – something that’s the given the manager food for thought.
“It’s something we tried last year, and it came off in once against Scunthorpe especially,” he added. “But then Will got injuries and international calls and we struggled to get them on the pitch together.
“I have played two up front before, with Will and Yanic (Wildschut), and I’ve no doubt Craig and Will could also form a partnership. We’ll see.”
